Harish Rao dares Kishan Reddy for debate on fuel prices

BUY-SELL | HELP WANTED | MATRIMONIAL

Huzurabad: Finance Minister T Harish Rao challenged the Union Minister G Kishan Reddy for a debate on taxes being imposed on diesel and petrol by the Central government.
“I am ready to come anywhere in my capacity as the State’s Finance Minister for a debate on the issue,” he said while addressing a press conference here on Friday evening.

The BJP was trying to get votes in Huzurabad bypolls through false propaganda. Being the Union Cabinet Minister, it was not proper on part of Kishan Reddy to reduce his position by misleading people and saying that the hike in diesel and petrol prices were due to increase in the prices of crude oil in the international market. Harish Rao said that the Union government led by the BJP was imposing three types of charges on the public. Besides basic exchange duty, road cess and surcharges have also been collected on petrol and diesel.

When the BJP government came to power in 2014, Rs 10.43 tax was collected on a litre petrol. Now, Rs 32.90 tax is being collected. There was Rs 22.47 jump in seven years. However, the tax on diesel has been hiked to Rs 31.80 from Rs 4.52 in 2014. In 2014-15, the Centre got Rs 99,068 crore revenue through tax on diesel and petrol. The figure shot up to Rs 3.72 lakh crore in 2020-21. There was Rs 2.73 lakh crore jump in revenue. As a result, the prices of essential commodities such as oils, pulses, vegetables and others increased abnormally.

Reacting on BJP candidate for Huzurabad bypoll Eatala Rajender’s comments that the Centre was providing Rs 5,000 to KCR kit scheme, Harish Rao slammed the BJP leader for spreading false information. While continuing in Finance and Health Minister posts, Rajender himself informed that the Centre was not giving a single rupee to the KCR kit scheme. Unfortunately, now the BJP leader was singing a different tune.

On the letter written to Election Commission of India by BJP leader Preemender Reddy seeking suspension of Dalit Bandhu, the Minister said that Rajender was distancing himself from the letter though he is from the party. trying to protect himself by saying that he had not written letter. When Rajender was a member of BJP party, where was a difference between himself and other members of the party. Based on the BJP letter, EC imposed restriction on implementation of Dalit Bandhu scheme, he said and assured to resume the scheme after the bypolls.
