‘Surgical Strike On Pak Cricket’ Outraged Indians Demand Boycott Of India-Pak T20 WC Clash

There’s no doubt that India facing off against Pakistan is the biggest encounter in the T20 World Cup. Given the history of the two neighbouring countries, whenever they take on each other it is much more than just a game of cricket, if not for the players at least for than fans. Fans from both countries feel that a favourable result in this match would give them a bragging right over their neighbours.

The marquee clash is still one week away but the anticipation around the match has hit the roof. However, all that glitters is not gold and the same is true in this case as well.

The reason why this encounter is in the limelight is not because people are excited about the match, it’s because they want Team India to boycott the match, in the view of brutal murder of innocent civilians by the terrorists in the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir in the recent weeks.

In the recent weeks, non-local civilians, including daily-wage labourers have been brutally murdered in the valley by the terrorists. A gol-gappa hawker from Bihar and a carpenter from Uttar Pradesh were killed in gruesome targeted attacks against innocent civilians, trying hard to earn a living and support their families.

On Sunday, terrorists opened fire on two non-local labourers from Bihar in the Wanpoh area of Kulgam district. So far, a total of 11 people have been killed in similar incidents, five of them local civilians while the rest hailed from outside the UT.

Indian fans want the Government of India to sever all ties with Pakistan, including cricket to teach them a lesson. Even the ministers from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have joined the bandwagon and expressed concerns saying that the match should be “reconsidered” amid the growing tension between the two nuclear-armed nations.

“I think the match should be reconsidered since the relations between India and Pakistan aren’t good,” Singh said when asked about the India-Pakistan encounter in the T20 World Cup.

Apart from the killings of innocent civilians, nine soldiers have also been martyred in the last one week in a terrorist encounter in the Poonch district in Jammu & Kashmir, as reported by NDTV.

India and Pakistan have not played any bi-lateral series against each other since 2013. The only time these two countries face each other is during the multi-nation continental or world tournaments.

The last match between these two sides took place during the 2019 ODI World Cup which India won comprehensively. In fact, India enjoys a perfect record against their arch-rivals in World Cup events, (both ODI and T20 World Cups) and if the match does go ahead as planned on October 24, Virat Kohli’s men will have a chance to extend their unbeaten run to 12 wins, across two formats.
