NEW YORK, NY- As Hurricane Ida rocked the country, the flash floods in its aftermath claimed lives of about 65 people – 4 of them reportedly of Indian origin.
Amongst those who lost their lives is Dhanush Reddy, a 31-year-old resident of Edison in NJ. Reddy died after being swept into a storm sewer pipe in South Plainfield in NJ.
Another casualty was reported from the Ramskriets family of Queens, NY. Tara Ramskriet along with her 22-year-old son Nick drowned when the flood water reached their homes.
Malathi Kanche a 46-year-old software designer was caught in the flash flood when her car stopped at Route 22, Bridgewater, NJ. Kanche was with her daughter. As both of them braved the torrents by holding on the tree, Malathi was swept away. There was an intense search for her in the area for 2 days but on Friday the news came along that she died.
The storm has caused billions of dollars in damages as it transformed into a post-tropical cyclone. The majority deaths have been reported from NJ, NY and Louisiana.
