Desis Discuss ‘Non-Middle Class’ Things That Only Rich People Do & It Makes Total Sense

BUY-SELL | HELP WANTED | MATRIMONIAL

For a generation that has grown up watching movies where coming home in a chopper and going to college in a million-dollar car is NBD, we think that’s how rich people live.

Bollywood’s idea (or rather Karan Johar’s idea) of wealth is totally different from reality and that’s not exactly how people who are loaded actually behave IRL.

Obviously, they don’t go to their colleges in a convertible car but they do have an envious life full of luxurious brands, exotic holidays and well, king-size everything.

They don’t think twice before booking a business class or wait for payday to shop. They probably sort ‘high to low’ on shopping websites (Net-A-Porter, not Naaptol) while my cart goes out of stock because I take too long to search for discount coupons. FML!

These are just a few examples of how super-rich people behave.

Meanwhile, Desis on Twitter have stumbled upon a bunch of other non-middle class things that someone who is rolling in money does.

This Twitter thread is actually a list of things you can check to see whether they are genuinely wealthy or not.

A Twitter user started this thread by posting, “3 cool ways to determine if you are wealthy 1. Your living room sofa is not placed up against a wall 2. You can take an afternoon nap any day you want 3. You have forgotten the password to your bank account or investment portfolio”

They added, “What else?,” inviting other users to pitch in what they think people with a fat bank balance do.

Here are some of the best responses:

1. You have a non-sensical painting in your living room. 2. You have 1000 candles in your living room even with a power back up. 3. You have a bar with more alcohol than ‘whiskey samba.’ and call it ‘On the House’.

You don’t have to run when doorbell or landline phone bell rings…..
You “become” vegan
You buy apartment for your staff/house helps near your home so that they are accessible anytime
You don’t switch off light/fan/ac while leaving room
Your guests wait till you wake up

Can switch on AC without worrying about the electricity bill!

1. If you can get out of bed from both the sides
2. If you don’t have to choose between your privacy & AC wala kamra
3. If you can opt for a low paying job and reject the higher ones because it fulfills the other criteria you are looking for in your work life.

The fact that these included simple luxuries like not worrying about Monday mornings, taking afternoon naps and spending time with family makes so much sense, because, obviously, people struggling to make ends meet and working day and night for their family don’t have the option to do that.

Also, it’s funny how so many tweets are about rich people using ACs without caring.

We, who were brought up by middle-class parents, have strict rules when it comes to ACs and electricity bills and it shows.

I think the only way you can tell if someone is rich is by observing how they use their AC.
