Warangal: Noted cardiologist from Warangal city Dr Ramaka Srinivas has urged Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao to establish an ‘epidemiology unit’ for study of all diseases and outbreak in detail considering the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic in the proposed super speciality hospital. The Chief Minister will lay the foundation stone for the hospital here on Monday.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Minister, Dr Srinvias said: “At this juncture, as a citizen of Warangal and associated with the city for the last 55 years and as a doctor practicing for the last 22 years, I hope that the proposed building which is planned by you would become one of the largest medical institutes in the world. Apart from every clinical department, it is important that a separate institute of Infectious diseases be accommodated in the premises. There is a dire need to establish an ongoing research facility related to each department – both clinical and non-clinical in the premises.”
Stating that the hospital should also have residential facilities for clinical, paramedical and non-teaching staff in line with most institutes, he said: “It is also important to construct dormitories for attendants of patients. Apart from being an institute to train clinicians, training facilities for laboratory personnel, nursing students should be established as per international standards. In essence, allied medical departments like nursing, diagnostic medicine, pharmacy are the need of the hour. There is also a need to establish a public health unit dedicated to community oriented preventive and screening and surveillance programmes.”
“While you are planning a major medical structure with a great vision, it is important that experiences from major institutes in India like PGI Chandigarh, JIPMER, AIIMS, Amirta Institute and world class institutes like Harvard, Johns Hopkins, Cleveland Clinic, etc., should be taken into consideration,” Dr Srinivas said, adding that the hospital should catering to the needs of the poor without any service charges. He said that reasonable charges should be fixed for those who can afford it in outpatient and inpatient wards and for diagnostic and treatment facilities.
